Cross country in southern Utah is hard, running in the blazing heat every day at 3:10 pm after school. You have to drink lots of water throughout the day to feel like you’re not going to die at practice. Charlize Brinkorhaf says that she drinks about 2 water bottles a day, she claims that she is not the best water drinker but she’s “ok”. Rachel Walker is one of the fastest girls on our Dixie High cross country team, Rachel drinks around 3-4 32-ounce water bottles a day, and she says she is a better water drinker this year than in the past. Hailey Clove has been on the cross country team for 4 years, she says that she is not the best water drinker, she drinks around 2-to 3 water bottles a day, she says she is trying to be better and is slowly getting better about drinking more water.
When it comes to cross country it can be hard to try to keep up with all of the miles that you run, Rachel Walker has run the most miles on the girl’s team this year. She has run more than 300 miles in this season in total. Rachel runs about 5-7 miles a day. Charlize runs mostly with the cross-country team this year she has still run around 150 miles this season. Charlize runs around 3-5 miles every day. Hailey has not run as many miles as Rachel but she has some of the best races out of most of the girls on our team, she runs around 5-6 miles every day, Hailey has not been able to run as many miles because of a current injury that she is recovering from.
Rachel, Hailey, and Charlize have had an awesome season so far, Rachel has had some of the best improvement since last season. Rachels’s PR is around 21 minutes for 3 miles, Hailey’s PR this year is around 20 minutes for 3 miles, and Charlize’s PR this year is 23 minutes for 3 miles. A girl’s varsity time for cross country is 24 minutes flat. Right now the Dixie high cross country team has around 10 girls on their cross country team. The lower classmen of the girls and boys country teams are wanting to recruit this year, to make the team bigger and much more fun. By the end of school they want to open up the opportunity to run cross country to the upcoming freshman of 2028 and 2029.
